Ambulatory Veterinary Assistant

North Bridge Equine Associates — Concord, MA

Full-time | Monday–Friday | $22-25 per hour

Anticipated start date: October 1, 2026


We are seeking an experienced horse person to join our growing ambulatory equine practice as a full-time Ambulatory Veterinary Assistant.

This position is primarily assigned to one veterinarian and involves traveling to farms throughout eastern Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire. The assistant helps the veterinarian work safely and efficiently while providing excellent patient care and client service.


Schedule

  • Monday through Friday
  • Typically 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
  • 32–40 hours per week
  • Overtime should be anticipated during the busy season from April through June
  • No weekend or after-hours emergency duty
  • Occasional earlier starts or later finishes may be required


Primary Responsibilities

  • Safely handle and restrain horses
  • Jog horses for lameness examinations
  • Drive the veterinarian and practice vehicle between appointments
  • Prepare equipment and supplies for farm calls
  • Assist with radiographs, ultrasound examinations, joint injections, and other procedures
  • Draw up and handle medications under veterinary direction
  • Prepare and label laboratory samples
  • Assist with charges, medical records, and appointment documentation
  • Track medications and supplies used during visits
  • Communicate professionally with clients
  • Assist with emergencies during the regular workday
  • Clean, organize, and stock the veterinary vehicle
  • Clean and maintain veterinary equipment
  • Complete weekly and monthly inventory counts for the vehicle and pharmacy


Required Qualifications

  • At least three years of hands-on horse-handling experience
  • Prior veterinary experience preferred
  • Confidence in handling horses of different ages, breeds, disciplines, and temperaments
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Eligibility for coverage under the practice automobile insurance policy
  • Ability to jog horses on uneven surfaces
  • Ability to lift and maneuver up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work outdoors in heat, cold, rain, snow, and mud
  • Reliable transportation to our Concord office
  • Basic smartphone and computer skills
  • Strong communication, organization, and follow-through

Compensation and Benefits

Starting pay is $22-25 per hour, depending on experience. This is a nonexempt hourly position

eligible for overtime.
