Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave Therapy
North Bridge Equine also offers extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT), commonly known as Shockwave. ESWT is a non-invasive therapy that produces high energy sound waves to improve blood circulation, reduce muscle spasm, and improve healing of damaged ligaments, tendons, boney structures, and muscles. We find it is an excellent treatment for muscle spasm and soreness especially in the back and pelvic area. ESWT can be used to treat a variety of different conditions, such as:
- tendon and ligament injuries. It is especially beneficial in proximal suspensory disease (“High suspensory injury”)
- degenerative joint disease
- back pain
- neck, sacroiliac, and lumbosacral injury/pain
Shockwave non-invasive, drug free, and often covered by insurance. It is typically performed as a series of three treatments 2-3 weeks apart. For treatment of muscle pain and spasm we may treat weekly or every 2 weeks depending on the particular horse’s need.
