North Bridge Equine is pleased to offer chiropractic evaluation and treatment. Technically termed ‘Spinal Manipulation’ in veterinary medicine, this modality has proven to be a valuable integrative therapy in horses of all ages, disciplines, and abilities. Chiropractic treatment aims to restore normal biomechanical motion to the horse through improved nerve function and circulation at joint surfaces. In addition to restoring and maintaining comfort and peak performance in your horse, this therapy is often included as an important part of the rehabilitation treatment plan following an injury. Some of the most common problems which may benefit from chiropractic treatment include:
- Poor or reduced performance
- Inconsistent or uneven contact in the bridle
- Avoiding the contact
- Sticking the tongue out in the bridle; tongue and jaw issues
- Behavioral abnormalities
- Reluctance to bend either in the neck or through the body
- Abnormal patterns of sweating on the body
- Muscle atrophy
- Abnormal tail carriage
An evaluation of the horse’s movement in hand or under saddle is often combined with motion palpation to identify restrictions within the head, axial skeleton and the limbs. A specialized manipulation technique is then used to restore normal function at the joint surfaces as required. It is typically advised that the horse have a full day off from ridden exercise after an adjustment, although free movement in turnout is encouraged. A routine schedule of treatments, typically offered at a 2-6 week interval is recommended for consistency in the therapy and maintenance of peak performance.
"With Dr. Fred and North Bridge Equine now performing Maggie's monthly chiropractic adjustments, her care is streamlined and any changes are evaluated and treated immediately. Maggie clearly "tells" Dr. Fred and Dr. Cory when her body is back in alignment with a little shake of her head. I, too, notice the difference in our rides as she's better able to bend and push from behind. We are so grateful for the expert care North Bridge Equine provides! "
